FAQ
Common questions about microplastic detection, 5mm services, and our site sections.
- What is DECOMPOSITION?
- We develop enzyme-based fluorescent biosensors for micro- and nanoplastic detection and operate 5mmTEST (testing), 5mmLAB (kits), and 5mmSHOP (consumer care products).
- How does microplastic detection work?
- Patented plastic-degrading enzymes react with microplastics in the sample; fluorescence from the reaction is measured to estimate concentration. Analysis uses a microplate reader instead of costly FT-IR+μ systems. See the Technology page for details.
- What is the difference between 5mmTEST and the 5mmLAB kit?
- 5mmTEST is a testing service—you send samples for standardized analysis. The 5mmLAB kit is for in-house lab use with a microplate reader. Visit 5mmtest.com for testing; see Products for the kit page.
- How long until results?
- With the 5mmLAB kit, roughly within 5 hours from prep to result per run (varies by batch). 5mmTEST turnaround depends on intake and lab schedule.
- What samples can be analyzed?
- Water (drinking, tap, filters), marine/environmental, and research samples. 5mmTEST focuses on household and institutional water; kits support in-house lab workflows. See Technology for applications.
- Where can I buy 5mmSHOP products?
- At 5mm.shop and Naver Smart Store. Links are on the Products page.
- Technology vs. Research pages?
- Technology explains how our detection stack works (workflow, specs, cleaning, microbes). Research covers R&D themes, collaborators, validation, and the microplastic map.
- How do I subscribe to the newsletter?
- Subscribe to DCP LETTER at decomposition.stibee.com — link on the Newsletter page under News.
